Learning Support Assistant

Contract/Hours: One year contract in the first instance with a strong possibility of extension

Salary Type: Support Staff

Salary Details: Grade B1 - B3 dependent upon experience (£20,812 - £21,133 pro rata)

Hours of Work: 31.25 hours, Monday to Friday, 39 weeks per year.  Start time 08:45 AM

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Teaching Assistant to join our wonderful school so that we can further enhance our provision for pupils with SEN and those who need additional support

This post is initially offered on a fixed term contract but there may be the possibility to extend after budget review.

The role includes one-to-one support for children with an Education, Health Care Plan, classroom support across the curriculum and specific intervention work with individuals and groups of children to support their learning and needs.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is patient, caring and empathetic
  • Shares a belief that every child can be successful and achieve their potential
  • Is able to work well as part of a team
  • Is able to use their initiative
  • Has a good sense of humour and has a positive outlook
  • Has a flexible approach
  • Is competent in English and Maths (GCSE grade C or above)

Ideally, applicants will:

  • Have experience of working with children with a range of Special Educational Needs in an educational setting
  • Have experience of delivering interventions to support literacy and numeracy skills however, each application will be judged on its strengths to meet the wider job description


The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Work with an individual or small group of children under the direction of the class teacher and SENDCo
  • Assist in ensuring pupils stay on task and complete learning tasks set by the teacher
  • Provide support to manage children’s social and emotional needs in conjunction with the class teacher
  • Provide feedback to the children in conjunction with the class teacher
  • Plan and deliver interventions to support the children in making good progress
  • Have a good understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality
  • Keep accurate records when needed
