Mobile phones
We understand that parents have different views and concerns about the impact of smartphones on children, and that these decisions can vary from family to family. We are committed to supporting our whole community by ensuring that both children and parents are well informed, so they can make the choices that are right for them.
Online safety is taught as part of our curriculum, helping children learn how to stay safe and make sensible choices online. We also use key opportunities such as Internet Safety Week and assemblies to reinforce important messages.
Pupils have taken part in workshops delivered by Papaya, where they learnt more about digital devices and online responsibility. In addition, we hosted a parent workshop to help families better understand online safety and how to support their children at home.
Mobile phones in school
We are currently holding a consultation to gather the views of staff, pupils, and parents about whether our school should become smartphone-free. We understand that this is an important topic for families, and we want to reassure parents that no changes will be made without careful consideration of everyone’s views and what is best for our children.
While this consultation is ongoing, our current arrangements remain in place. The school continues to be phone-free during the day, meaning children do not have access to their phones during school hours. If a child brings a phone to school, it is kept safely stored and returned to them at home time.
Our priority is, and will always be, the safety, wellbeing, and learning of our pupils, and we thank parents for their continued support and cooperation.
