Pastoral support

Our children are nurtured and deeply cared for here at CJS- we focus on building trusting relationships and identifying what a child needs to be successful in school. The headteacher and Deputy are trauma informed trained, and cascade a relational approach across the school to all staff. Our staff take pride in creating a safe environment where children feel a strong sense of belonging, and aim to meet their pupil's needs within the classroom (see the toolkit on our other page- Classroom provision) .  Class adults have a wealth of resources and training to meet academic and emotional need. Staff have access to our therapy room which can be used for any child in the school:

Mental health lessons:

We also have My Happy Mind (https://myhappymind.org/) , which was introduced to all year groups last year.  MyHappymind is based around helping children to understand how their brain works and to support them in developing positive skills and habits to be their very best selves! It is delivered in school by class teachers through a series of interactive lessons and then the children apply what they’ve learnt throughout the day. To further embed this learning, MyHappymind has developed a Parent App which  will support you as a parent in understanding what your child is learning, provide you with activities for you to do together at home and also a Kids Zone featuring MyHappymind Games. To find out more information, you can watch this short video https://myhappymind.lpages.co/myhappymind-parent-app-introduction/   In your child's homework book, you will find a QR code that makes accessing the app even easier!

Emotion training interventions:

Staff have access to specific interventions which support children in identifying, naming and exploring emotions, along with learning about mindfulness and their brain.

ELSA support:

Support within the classroom with trusted and familiar adults is our first strategy for supporting mental help, but when a deeper level of support is needed, our ELSA Mrs Moakes is available to deliver specialist sessions.

Other therapies

We also run sessions with specialist therapists on Mondays and Thursdays. Where appropriate, we use a threshold system to allocate ringfenced funds which may be from an EHCP, Children’s services or other specialist routes to finance this for some children.  Following a parent survey, we have extended this to offer some private spaces for parents who are interested in purchasing a block of sessions for their child:

If you are concerned about your child's mental health, please speak to their class teacher in the first instance, who can give advice on the best course of action. If you are interested in private therapy for your child, please contact the school office to find out more and check availability.
