Physical Education at Clanfield Junior School
We’re a Gold Sports Mark School!
We’re absolutely delighted to share that Clanfield Junior School has been awarded the Gold School Games Sports Mark! This fantastic achievement recognises our commitment to keeping children active, healthy, and happy through sport and physical activity. It celebrates the wide range of opportunities we offer — from PE lessons and clubs to competitions, enrichment events, and active playtimes.
Our PE curriculum:
At Clanfield Junior School, we want every child to look forward to PE and feel excited to get active, try something new, and build confidence along the way. We’ve recently redesigned our PE curriculum to make it broader, more inclusive, and more connected to our children’s interests and local area. Our weekly lessons include a wide range of traditional and non-traditional sports — from football and netball to goalball and Boccia — so there’s truly something for everyone.
Working closely with EdActive, we’ve created a progressive curriculum that builds on what children already know, helping them develop new skills step by step. We also use Get Set for PE, ensuring every lesson is active, engaging, and accessible for all abilities.
This year, we’ve added orienteering to our offer — and we’re thrilled to be installing our very own orienteering course for pupils (and their families!) to enjoy. Our dream is to finish the year with a whole-school colour run — a joyful celebration of fitness, teamwork, and fun!
We try to be as active as possible throughout the school day, building in opportunities for extra movement breaks, active learning, enrichment trips, and visits from inspiring sports coaches. Whether it’s a local sports workshop, an inter-school event, or simply getting outside to move more — we know that active bodies help make active minds!

Sports Day
Sports Day at Clanfield Junior School is one of our favourite days of the year! It’s full of energy, laughter, and teamwork as children take part in a carousel of fun activities with their House Teams.
Everyone gets involved — cheering, supporting, and celebrating each other’s efforts. It’s all about joining in, trying your best, and having a great time together. Families come along to cheer from the sidelines, making it a wonderful community event filled with smiles, sunshine, and school spirit!
Enrichment and After-School Clubs
We love giving our children the chance to try something new and stay active! Our enrichment programme and after-school clubs offer a fantastic variety of opportunities — from archery, fencing, and paddle boating to netball, football, and dodgeball — ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy. These clubs and activities are all about building confidence, teamwork, and a sense of adventure, while helping children discover new passions and develop a lifelong love of sport and movement.
We’re always looking for new ways to enhance our PE and enrichment offer, so that every child can find something they love — whether during the school day or after the day ends!

Swimming at Clanfield Junior School
At Clanfield Junior School, we believe every child should feel confident, safe, and happy in the water — and our swimming lessons are a real highlight of the summer term!
We’re lucky to host the fantastic Swim:ED pop-up pool, provided by ActiveMe 360, right here on our school grounds. This amazing resource means that every child gets to enjoy time in the pool without even leaving school! Our Year 5 pupils take up the core curriculum swimming offer, developing strong swimming skills and vital water safety knowledge. Other year groups also join in with lessons suited to their ability — from building water confidence to practising key safety techniques.
It’s always an exciting time — full of splashes, smiles, and growing confidence — and we’re so proud of how much our pupils achieve each year.
