Rock to the Beat
Rock 2 the Beat is a fun, engaging weekly music project run by Hampshire Music Service for pupils (primarily Years 4-6) that combines instrumental tuition with band experience. It’s aimed at developing skills on rock/pop instruments, confidence, teamwork, and musicianship.
How it works:
-
Instrument Lessons & Band Sessions: Pupils receive weekly small-group lessons (20 min) on instruments such as electric guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, or voice. After an initial period focused on technique, they join band sessions with peers.
-
Tutors: Sessions are led by specialist Hampshire Music Service tutors at the school.
-
Performance: At the end of each term pupils take part in a concert or celebration performance to showcase their progress to family and friends.
-
The programme typically runs on a 10-week term basis.
-
First part of term focuses on instrument technique, second part on playing together in band format.
What’s included:
-
Instrument loan (e.g., guitar, bass, keyboard, drum pads) is usually provided for the first year.
-
Teaching resources such as backing tracks, sheet music, and instructional material are included.
-
Online resources are available for practice outside lesson time.
