Curriculum Trips
We’re thrilled to share that we have an exciting new curriculum trip offer launching in 2025! Our staff have worked hard to plan a variety of local and inspiring experiences that not only enrich our curriculum but also spark curiosity and encourage children to explore new interests beyond the classroom. Each trip has been carefully chosen to enhance subject learning, connect to our local area, and inspire future hobbies or family days out.
Pupil voice played a big part in shaping our plans — children told us that the pop-up pool and paddleboarding were among their favourite activities, so we’ve made sure to include two water-based trips in our new schedule. We’ll also be welcoming visiting experts and workshop leaders to bring subjects like history, science, and art to life right here in school.
Local Visits
We have increased the number of trips within our immediate locality, helping children connect with the environment and community around them. Some of our local destinations include Clanfield Pond, Peel Park, Little Hyden Woods and Catherington Lith.
Wider Local Offer
We also explore the wider area, with visits to Butser Hill, Queen Elizabeth Country Park, Gilbert White’s House, the Sustainability Centre and Weald & Downland Living Museum. These places bring our curriculum to life and allow pupils to deepen their understanding of the world around them.
Inspirational Curriculum Trips
To inspire curiosity and passion for learning, we have built in even more curriculum-linked experiences that motivate children to discover new interests — or even find new family activities to enjoy together! Examples include paddle boating, a behind-the-scenes technical tour of the Kings Theatre, and a visit to Winchester Science Museum.
Specialist Visitors and Workshops
We also love welcoming visitors into school for exciting themed workshops such as Ancient Egyptian Day, Stone Age Day, or a visiting artist experience. These hands-on days are always a highlight — and they have the added bonus of no transport costs!

Community-Funded Visitors
We are very fortunate to have such strong community support. In recent years, we’ve enjoyed art sessions with Clarke Reynolds, gardening with our Parish Councillors, and interactive workshops with Papaya Screen, STEM specialists, PeCAN environmental leaders, and the Straw Foundation for local litter picks.
Here are a few examples of our trips!

New for This Year – Specialist Enrichment Trips
This year, we are excited to introduce a brand-new opportunity for small groups of children to attend free specialist trips linked to their favourite subjects. These experiences are designed to promote lifelong curiosity, inspire a love of learning, and give pupils the chance to explore their interests in real-world settings.
From visiting art galleries and historical landmarks to taking part in hands-on science workshops or exploring the wonders of nature, these enrichment trips are all about celebrating children’s passions and encouraging them to see learning as an adventure that continues beyond the classroom.
For example, some pupils attended Churchers College for a quiz and Horndean Technology College for STEM activities.

Some of our dedicated mathematicians attended Aim high at Front Lawn Academy to take part in a series of complex maths problems and activities. Many of our children have taken part in sporting opportunities - see Sporting opportunities for these events!
Mary Rose Museum Enrichment Trip
Mrs Hart and Mrs Moakes had a fantastic time accompanying ten budding historians on an exciting enrichment trip to the Mary Rose Museum. The children’s curiosity, respect, and sense of responsibility shone throughout the day, with museum staff commenting several times on their eagerness to learn and the thoughtful questions they asked to deepen their understanding.
We are incredibly proud of how our Clanfield pupils represented the school — they truly brought our school values to life. Back at school, George, Jamie, and Noah gave an engaging presentation to their class about the visit, perfectly capturing the highlights of a memorable and inspiring day.
We can’t wait for our next trip to the Weald & Down Museum in 2026, to bring History to life for our children!
“We went to the Mary Rose museum in Portsmouth. We saw the skeleton of a dog called Hatch. He was on the boat about 500 years ago when they discovered the wreck of the Mary Rose. We were amazed to hear that one of the guns shot iron cubes, pure iron! It was amazing to see the Mary Rose, and it was really cool that we heard that Nasa took a piece of the ship around the orbit of the earth.”

Coming in November- trip to Marwell for animal enthusiasts!
Residential Trips
Even as adults, many of us still remember our school residentials — and we’re proud to offer these unforgettable experiences at CJS. Our children thrive when they take part in overnight stays, developing independence, teamwork, and new-found confidence. Every pupil has the opportunity to attend two residential trips during their time with us.
Year 4 Residential at Fort Purbrook
In Year 4, our children will be heading to Fort Purbrook for a one-day and overnight adventure, taking part in a range of exciting and challenging activities with their friends. This experience is often the first time many pupils stay away from home, and it provides a wonderful opportunity to build confidence, independence, and self-belief in a supportive and fun environment.
The children always return with big smiles, new friendships, and a huge sense of achievement — ready to take on even greater challenges in the future!
Year 6 Residential at Fairthorne Manor
Year 6 enjoyed an epic few days of adventure and fun at Fairthorne Manor in October, making memories that will last a lifetime! Following Fairthorne’s motto of “challenge through choice,” the children showed incredible resilience and determination as they tackled climbing walls and learnt how to abseil with confidence.
They also embraced a range of exciting activities — from building their own fires and testing their aim in archery challenges, to working as teams to design and launch catapults. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to develop independence, teamwork, and self-belief, all while having plenty of fun in the great outdoors!
