Our Pond
Phase 1:
Clearing/ preparation of the pond area
Our pond area was very neglected and overgrown-children never had the opportunity to visit. We were lucky enough to have help from Burley Aquatics to help clear this back in August 2024. Our wonderful grounds team spent hours digging out the roots and helping to create a base for us to develop.
Phase 2:
Landscaping the area
The wonderful volunteers from the local Parish Council and Tree Gang came one weekend to blitz the area, and sowed native wild meadow seeds in the bed. This will really help attract pollinators to this area. Our wonderful grounds team spent hours digging out the roots and helping to create a base for us to develop. The next step was to mark out and create paths for children to use. We picked bark mulch to help encourage wildlife into the area. The Tree Gang also built an observation hut for our children to use. The PTA kindly agreed to pay for the wood, so the Tree Gang built a fantastic space for pupils to quietly watch wildlife.
Phase 3:
Involving the children
Children applied for the role of Ranger. Our Rangers have teamed up with Rachel Ritchie from Petersfield Climate Action Network. They have been lucky enough to take part in a range of activities, such as carbon capturing, abundance counts and habitat making. The Rangers helped to place bird baths, bee cups and bug hotels to encourage wildlife into the area.
